How to Install & Set Up the Dexcom G7 App

Setting up the Dexcom G7 app takes about 10 minutes plus a 30-minute sensor warmup. Here is the full process.

Step 1 — Check your phone is compatible

The app requires iOS 18.6 or later on iPhone, or Android 13 or later. Because the sensor streams over Bluetooth, Dexcom verifies specific phone models — check the official list at dexcom.com/compatibility before you start.

Step 2 — Download the app

Get the free app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Sign in with your Dexcom account or create one in the app.

Step 3 — Apply the sensor

Clean the back of your upper arm, remove the applicator cap, press the applicator against your skin and push the button. The all-in-one sensor applies in one press — most people describe it as nearly painless.

Step 4 — Pair sensor and app

The app walks you through pairing: it asks for the sensor’s pairing code (printed on the applicator), then connects over Bluetooth. Keep your phone within 6 meters / 20 feet of the sensor.

Step 5 — Warmup, then readings

The sensor warms up for about 30 minutes. After that, readings arrive automatically every 5 minutes. Set your alert thresholds in Settings, add followers via Dexcom Share, and connect your watch if you have one.

Troubleshooting basics

  • Signal loss: keep the phone on the same side of your body as the sensor; toggling Bluetooth usually reconnects it.
  • Battery optimization (Android): exclude the G7 app from battery-saver features so alerts always come through.
  • Sensor grace period: after 10 days you have 12 extra hours to start a new sensor without a data gap.

For persistent technical issues, contact official Dexcom support — they can replace faulty sensors.
