Because the Dexcom G7 sensor streams over Bluetooth Low Energy and drives medically important alerts, Dexcom verifies specific phone models rather than just OS versions. Here is how to know if your device will work.
Minimum requirements
- iPhone: iOS 18.6 or later (per the current App Store listing).
- Android: Android 13 or later, on a Dexcom-verified model.
- Bluetooth: BLE 4.2+, always on. The sensor must stay within ~6 meters / 20 feet of your phone.
The authoritative, regularly updated list of verified models is Dexcom’s own page: dexcom.com/compatibility. If your exact model is not listed, the app may still install and run, but Dexcom does not guarantee alert delivery — which is the part you should not gamble on.
Smartwatches
Apple Watch
The G7 supports a direct connection to compatible Apple Watch models: the sensor pairs with the watch itself, so readings continue even when your iPhone is out of range. You still need the iPhone app for setup, alerts configuration and sharing.
Wear OS
Supported Wear OS watches display readings via the phone app (no direct sensor connection). Complications and tiles let you keep the current number on your watch face.
If your phone is not compatible
- Dexcom receiver: a standalone display device available with the G7 — no smartphone required at all.
- Keep alerts reliable: if you use a borderline device, disable battery optimization for the G7 app (Android Settings → Battery) and keep Bluetooth always on.
- Traveling or upgrading phones? Install the app on the new phone, sign in, and pair the current sensor — your session continues.
Common compatibility questions
Tablets? Not officially supported — alert timing cannot be guaranteed. Two phones at once? No, one display device plus one watch. Do I need internet? Only for Share/Follow and Clarity sync — readings themselves are Bluetooth-only.
